EDM is a processing technology that uses the erosive capabilities of electrical discharges and can only be used on good conductors, so in particular on metals. Such technology allows the company from Sesto Calende to be abe to work metals of any hardness (special and quick steels, hard metals, etc.) or hardened by heat treatment or chemicals (hardened, carburized etc.). The hardness of the material to be processed has, in fact, a secondary influence regarding the speed of removal or energy to be used during processing. The 640 and 240 machines that Luis Miglioranza is able to use allow the processing of the piece creating geometric or volumetric figures thanks to the fact that EDM does not need a rotary tool. With this technique it is therefore possible to obtain sharp corners and create ribs and cavities with shapes or profiles that are not achievable with other technologies. There is also the possibility of obtaining a more or less pronounced roughness depending on the degree of the finish of the processed surfaces and the required tolerances.
